Have you ever had one of those sudden, unexpected moments of clarity—a real “lightbulb moment”—when something just clicks? I had one recently, and it caught me completely off guard. I was halfway through my morning coffee, watching the sunlight filter through the kitchen window and the pigeons busying themselves on the roof opposite, when I realised how often I move through my day on autopilot. I’d been so wrapped up in ticking off tasks and managing routines that I hadn’t stopped to notice the small, beautiful details around me.

It made me think about how these flashes of insight often come when we least expect them. Sometimes, it’s during a gentle yoga stretch, a quiet walk outside, or even while doing something mundane like washing up. These moments can shift our perspective, helping us see old problems with new eyes or land on a completely new idea or direction. I’ve found that the more space I give myself to pause and reflect, the more likely these lightbulb moments are to appear.

I’ve spoken recently to my yoga students about cultivating stillness, resting in a pose for a few moments, allowing the whole body to get involved, noticing how you feel, altering something if it doesn’t feel quite right, relaxing into it. If you’re thinking about what you’re going to do next or trying to push yourself to achieve some idea of perfection, those opportunities for “aha” moments will be lost.

This doesn’t just apply to yoga practice. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that clarity rarely arrives when we’re rushing or distracted. It’s in the quiet, mindful pauses that ideas surface and solutions reveal themselves. If you’ve been feeling stuck or overwhelmed, maybe it’s time to invite a little more spaciousness into your day. Notice what’s around you, give yourself permission to slow down, and see what new insights emerge.

Whether you’re seeking more clarity, a sense of direction, or simply a deeper connection with yourself, my mindful yoga classes are a wonderful way to create space for those “aha” moments. Each session is designed to help you move your body, quieten your mind, and tune in to what you really need. An “aha” moment can of course occur when after many weeks, months, years even, of yoga practice, you finally settle into your best version of a yoga pose.
